Kaneana cave on Oahu is the site of one of Hawaii’s creation myths. Visitors will find this deep and high cave on the southwest side of the island off Farrington Highway. This cave is also the location of another legend: Nanaue. This half shark, half human was said to lure his human victims to the cave, where they would become his dinner.

How was the Cave Formed?

This area is not a maintained park, so take care and don’t visit if you are not sure footed.
You will find narrow pathways within the cave that branch off in different directions. While this cave is a well known attraction, it has not been mapped out, so spelunkers should use caution and consider not venturing too far down cave tunnels.
