Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden

As you drive along the southeast coast of Oahu, you can suddenly see breathtaking views of the green mountains rising above the haze from your car. On a rainy day, these mountains even turn into a cascading waterfall. Stop here and you’ll find that you can actually get a closer look at this beauty. Because in fact, this absolutely jaw-dropping view is part of the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden.

What is Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden?

The Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden is located in Kaneohe under the Ko’olau Mountains on the windward side of Oahu. This botanical garden is probably the most popular on this island. It’ s best to travel there by car. It takes 25-45 minutes to drive from Honolulu, and passage/entry to the botanical gardens is completely free. Visiting hours are daily from 9am to 4pm.

What can you do there?

Aside from exploring a wide variety of exotic plants on the 400-acre site, there is so much more you can do. This natural oasis is perfect for walking/hiking. People also go there for picnics in the nature. Be sure to bring a water bottle, but also some bread to feed the ducks. This is because inside the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden is Lake Waimaluhia. You can even fish in it. In the Hawaiian language, Ho’omaluhia means “to make a place of peace and tranquility”. And that’s exactly what Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden is.

Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden famous road view

Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden is also famous for its road view since it’s the dreamiest place for photoshoots. A green scene with tropical trees and an asphalt road leading to the mountains towering above the clouds is destined to be a hit on platforms like Instagram or Pinterest. But now, stopping your car on the main road is strictly forbidden, so you can only take a viral photo in the middle of the road with permission. To get the best photos, hire a personal professional photographer in Hawaii!
