Sunrise Hikes on Oahu

Are you an early bird that don’t mind getting up before sunrise? Be ahead of everyone and don’t lose a single minute of your Hawaii trip. Because Oahu has some of the best hikes you can do in the morning to see the sunrise. Skip your morning workout at the boring hotel gym and replace it with a nature hike. Head out to greet the sun on these sunrise hikes on Oahu.

Sunrise at Diamond Head

Diamond Head Crater Hike

The easiest option if you are staying in Waikiki, is to hike the Diamond Head Crater. From the center of Waikiki, it takes less than 15 minutes to get there by car. And the hike to the top only takes about  20 minutes. It’s also a great adventure for families, as the trail isn’t rough at all. After a bit of sweating, you will be rewarded with a view of amazing sunrise over the endless ocean on one side and whole Waikiki in its morning glow on the other. Don’t forget to make your reservation in advance the day before!

Morning view from Lanikai Pillbox

Lanikai Pillbox Sunrise Hike

One of the most amazing sunrise hikes on Oahu can be done in Kailua. The famous Lanikai Pillbox has a spectacular view of Mokulua Islands, that is even more beautiful at sunrise. This hike is not that long – 0.9 miles, but the route is slightly challenging. So definitely wear appropriate hiking shoes and be adventurous. At the top, you’ll be amazed by the morning shimmer of the ocean and mountainsides colored by the sunrise. Best of all, after your hike, you can go straight to Lanikai Beach to cool off!

Koko Head Trail on Oahu

If you have rented a car, go spend your morning to Koko Head. From Honolulu, it’s a 30-minute drive and the hike to the top also takes about 30 minutes plus. This hike really is a good workout. You have to climb 1,048 steps that make up the rail trail with an elevation gain of 1,207 feet. That’s why this Oahu hike is known as the most challenging, but amazing sunrise is guaranteed! Watch as the world slowly wakes up beneath you, and in the meantime, enjoy your morning serving of endorphins.
