Diamond Head Tickets
Since May 12, 2022, in order to visit Diamond Head State Monument, you need to book tickets in advance. Only Hawaii residents can visit Diamond Head without reservation, however, the entry may depend on parking spot availability. In this article, we will provide you with all the essential information about Diamond Head tickets and the best way to organize your tour there.
First of all, you need to be aware that the reservations may be made up to 30 days in advance. Make sure you book it at least 1 week in advance, especially in the high season in Hawaii-tickets are sold out really fast.

We recommend arriving within the first 30 minutes of your reservation period. If you are late you might be denied access and/or parking. There will be no refunds for no-shows or late arrivals.

How to Get There
It’s only a 10-15 minute drive from Waikiki by car. The easiest way to get to Diamond Head is to get on Monsarrat Avenue (the one-way street between the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park). Once you have the zoo on your left and the park on your right, go straight ahead and it will eventually go uphill and become Diamond Head road.
If you’re staying at a hotel in Waikiki, you can ask the hotel staff if they have special deals on shuttles, trolleys, or other transportation that can get you to Diamond Head Hike.
Special Tips and Other Important Info
- No pets are allowed except for service animals
- Bring water, sunscreen, and hats with you-it can get very hot there since there is no shade during the whole hike
- Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for your hike
- Comfortable walking shoes are must-have
- The better time to do the hike is early morning when the sunlight is not very intense
