Dr. Beach is Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman. He is Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University. Dr. Beach says:

Growing up in North Carolina, he was proud to have the biggest sandbox in the neighborhood. Every vacation he wanted to go to the beach, to play in the biggest sandbox he could imagine. His love for beaches was one of the reasons why he started his “TOP 10 Beaches of America” list. His first list was published in 1991 and he keeps rating the best beach in America annually ever since.
Top 10 Best Beaches 2019
Some of the beaches named in the TOP 10 are also on our list of the most famous beaches of Hawaii. In 2019 THREE of the Top 10 beaches are located in Hawaii: Hapuna Beach State Park on the Big Island made it on the list. Also Duke Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki on Oahu is in the Top 10. Named after the famous surfer, swimmer and Sheriff of Honolulu, Duke Kahanamoku.

The eastside of Oahu is famous for its fine white sand beaches. Waimanalo beach is one of the most beautiful beaches and was rated the BEST BEACH in AMERICA by Dr. Beach in 2015. “Kailua Beach Park is a beautiful white sand coral beach with generally small waves, making it great for swimming and kayaking. A very popular activity is to paddle a kayak to the nearby picturesque offshore islands; the larger one has a nice sandy beach. Kailua Beach Park has lifeguards on duty, free parking, bathrooms, beach showers, picnic tables, volleyball courts and kayak rentals among other amenities. It is only minutes away from the village of Kailua where there are good restaurants, or you can pick up plate lunches and drinks for the beach.”
