1. How to get to Pearl Harbor? Taxi or Tour?

Most of the tourists on Oahu stay in Waikiki. Waikiki is a great spot to stay, because it is the epicenter of tourism and most of the activities and tours start here or at least offer pickup from Waikiki. Tours to Pearl Harbor are most likely to start from Waikiki. If you decided to visit Pearl Harbor, you can either take a tour or just take a taxi.

It is really up to you if you prefer to have things arranged for you or if you like to figure everything out yourself. Tours usually take care of the tickets for you. Tour Companies also make sure you get to the Pearl Harbor Museum in time.

If you like to take a taxi or UBER to Pearl Harbor you are on your own. Make sure to arrive early to get tickets to the USS Arizona and the movie about the attack on Pearl Harbor. The gate opens at 7am. It makes sense to get there an hour early!

2. How far is Pearl Harbor from Waikiki?

An Uber or Taxi Ride to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center costs around $45-50. The trip to Pearl Harbor in a taxi takes about 30 minutes. The taxi or Uber to Pearl Harbor will drop you off in front of the main entrance of the visitor center.

If you take a tour to Pearl Harbor there are usually different start times. The Pearl Harbor Tour with DanielsHawaii starts between 8-9am. The small group tour to Pearl Harbor offers free pickup in front of you Hotel in Waikiki.

3. How to get great pictures of the USS Arizona Memorial?

As of June 2019 the USS Arizona Memorial is still closed. There are different ways of getting good pictures of the USS Arizona Memorial. The closest you will get to the Memorial is probably on the boat ride to the Arizona.

USS Arizona Memorial

The ticket to the boat ride is the same that you get to see the movie. Again, only ~1,300 tickets to Pearl Harbor are available per day and handed out on a first come first serve basis.

If you decide to take the boat ride make sure to sit on the outside of the bench. During the boat ride to the USS Arizona Memorial it is not allowed to stand up or walk around. If you are sitting on the inside you will most likely not be able to take great pictures of the memorial. The chances that somebody in front of you will hold up his arms to snap a picture are very high – meaning: If you are not sitting on the outside, you will only be able to take a picture of somebody else taking a picture!

4. How much costs a Tour to Pearl Harbor?

Prices vary – well that’s a horrible answer that doesn’t really help anybody, right? Tickets for a Pearl Harbor Tour with DanielsHawaii start at $89. A free city tour of Honolulu is included in the Pearl Harbor Tour and also a stop at the King Kamehameha Statue. Many people know the King Kamehameha statue from the TV Show Hawaii Five-0. The Statue is in front of our Hawaii Supreme Court – in the show it is the Hawaii Five-0 Headquarter.
