Kona on the Big Island

Hawaii Island also known as Big Island is not just the largest island in Hawaii state, but it’s also the largest island in the entire United States. However, not the most populated; Oahu is the most populated island where most of the tourist attractions are located. If you want to experience outdoor adventures, see volcanoes, and LOTS of nature then Big Island would be your choice. In today’s article, we are going to share with you information about one of the cities of Hawaii Island. Kona on the Big Island is the largest town on the island and the place where you’ll find Costco, Target, Bars, Restaurants and the main airport. 

Sunny Kona stretches almost two-thirds of the entire West side of the island of Hawaii. Along this vast area, you’ll find everything from coffee farms to historic Hawaiian landmarks. In fact, King Kamehameha spent his final years in Kailua-Kona.

Things to Do in Kona 

Kona is the center of nightlife on the Big Island with a small but diverse offering of restaurants, bars, and two great brewpubs. Furthermore, in Kona, you can easily take a walking tour of Kona’s history at places like Huliheʻe Palace, Mokuʻaikaua Church and the Ahuʻena Heiau.

Likewise, Kona is famous for its fishing; every August there is the International Billfish Tournament. Besides water activities, Kona is famous for its Coffee! When in Kona travel to Hōlualoa, the town where you can sample the distinctive flavors of 100% Kona coffee.

Kona Brewpub

The Kona Brewing Company is a small, independent traditional brewery in Kona, which also runs the great Kona Brewpub. If you are in Kona this would be a place for dinner and a great variety of beers. Moreover, they also arrange short brewery tours which are fun and informative.

Kona Coffee Tasting

As we already mentioned Kona is famous for its coffee. Since this town lies in the heart of “Coffee Country”. In fact, coffee can only be called “Kona Coffee”  if it grows on the slopes of the Hualalai and Mauna Loa volcanoes in the north and south Kona district. If you are a coffee lover you have to try Kona coffee!

Kona Farmers Markets

Farmers’ Markets are always fun! There are several markets in Kona that you can visit. The most popular one is the Kona farmers market which is open Wednesday through Sunday.

Kealakekua Bay

Kealakekua Bay is located on the South Kona coast. The bay’s brilliant waters are filled with coral reefs and there are a great variety of tropical fishes. Therefore this place is the home of one of the best snorkeling spots in the entire state of Hawaii.
