Biggest Town on Maui – Kahului

Kahului is Maui biggest town with about 30.000 inhabitants and is the industrial and commercial center of the island. Here, you can combine sightseeing with some shopping at the Queen Kaahumanu Center, the largest two-story mall in Maui or at the outdoor Maui Mall. The local bus will also take you there from all locations and cities across the island.

Iao Needle – Hiking on Maui

Just ten minutes west of Kahului is Wailuku, the capital of Maui with its government buildings since 1950, where, you can still eat at some good, inexpensive restaurants.

Located next to Wailuku is the Iao Valley, one of the top attraction in Central Maui. A paved, 1/2 mile pathway leads to a lookout featuring the 1200 ft. high Iao Needle, one of Maui’s most prominent landmarks. This is a perfect place for hiking.
