The plan was to reopen Hawaii on August first. Hotels, Bars, Restaurants, Tours Companies and everybody in or related to the tourism industry was getting ready. Until Governor Ige announced on Monday July 13th around 10am: “Hawaii’s reopening will be pushed back at least until September first”. Hawaii is NOT reopening on August first. The governor made this decision in collaboration with Hawai‘i’s four county mayors.

Several factors contributed to the decision to delay the pre-travel testing program and stop the reopening of Hawaii.
What are the reasons Hawaii is not reopening?
- The continental U.S. (mainland) is seeing large, uncontrolled outbreaks in some of Hawai‘i’s main visitor markets, including California. Many of these communities are increasing restrictions and rolling back reopening plans.
- Hawai‘i is seeing an increase in cases.
- The outbreaks on the mainland are affecting Hawai‘i’s testing supply, including an interruption in our supply chain from the mainland.
- Hawai‘i anticipates an uptick in cases when schools re-open in August.
What does REOPENING Hawaii even mean?
Everybody speaks about reopening Hawaii, but does everybody really know how little it means? Hawaii will not be going back to normal from the reopening date on.
Who’s fault is it? Republicans? Democrats? Or is it YOUR fault?
Of course we would all like to know who’s fault it is that people in Hawaii can’t go back to work. It is easy to blame the government or a political party. The Governor said it in one of his last statements, since Hawaii is part of the United States, we are in this together. With numbers going up on the US Mainland, Hawaii will most likely not reopen until the US Mainland has everything under control. With that being said, PLEASE WEAR YOUR MASK!
