TV Shows Filmed in Hawaii

Hawaii is a real paradise for picturesque scenery seekers. With so many amazing views to choose from, TV show directors can get a good benefit from filming in Hawaii. Since, many beautiful islands, lush scenery, and magnificent hills create an awesome backdrop for the series and movies’ actions. Here is a list of the top 5 TV shows filmed in Hawaii

1) Hawaii Five-0

When the original run of Hawaii Five-O ended after twelve seasons in 1980, it was the longest-running police procedural drama in American TV history. In 2010, CBS decided to reboot “Hawaii Five-0” for a new generation. While it feels like this show wasn’t as impactful as the original, it was still immensely successful.

The opening theme includes shots of the huge waves on the North Shore of Oahu, gorgeous Waikiki sunsets, and bird’s-eye views of beautiful Honolulu.

2) LOST (2004-2010)

Show directors chose Oahu as a mysterious island location for this series. Lost is one of the most expensive TV series ever produced. Sources say the pilot alone cost over $14 million! Filming locations include Mokuleʻia Beach, Kualoa Ranch, and the banyan tree near Turtle Bay Resort.

The lost tv show is about a group of people who survive when their commercial passenger jet crashes on an inhabited island. Therefore, the survivors try to stay alive and eventually discover many mysteries about the island.

4) North Shore (2004 – 2005)

Fox’s North Shore takes place primarily within the grounds of the luxurious Resort on the North Shore of Oahu. The show is about the lives of the hotel’s staff, primarily Jason Matthews. Hawaiian-born Jason Matthews runs the hotel as the assistant manager and makes sure every guest gets everything they need.

4) Gilligan’s Island (1964–1967)

This iconic 1960s sitcom follows the antics of seven shipwrecked castaways stranded on a deserted island. The actions in the show take place at Coconut Island, less than a quarter-mile from Kaneohe Bay on Oahu. Likewise, some scenes were filmed throughout the island of Kauai.

5) The White Lotus (2021 – present)

The White Lotus is a social satire in the form of a comedy-drama series. The show outlines the lives and interactions between both guests and staff at a gorgeous tropical resort in Hawaii. Over the week, however, darker undertones are slowly revealed in the details of each of the vacationers’ lives.

The White Lotus was an instant success, prompting a quick renewal for a second season that will feature a new group of travelers on a new White Lotus property.
